• Helen Hayes Awards Sets a New Standard

The Olivera Quartet was instrumental in the re-vamping of the Helen Hayes Awards last evening at the Lincoln Theatre, Washington, DC. Providing play-on music, plus play-off music if the award winner spoke beyond the time limit, the awards show included 50 awards and presentations in 78 minutes, an amazing feat for any awards type event. The music director, Connie Olivera, carefully selected songs to match the theme of the theatre in which the event took place. 50 different songs were used, matching the award itself, such as "Chameleon" for Best Adaption of a Play or Musical, "I'm Beginning to See the Light" for Best Lighting Design, or "Maiden Voyage" for Best Original New Play or Musical.
